Biography

Elizabeth Martinez is an author and recently published a poetry book about life experiences as a little person. She attended Catholic Schools up to ninth grade then went to public school. During her freshmen year of high school she received a teachers award for demonstrating teaching skills to Special Education students. She also did public speaking with a group of her peers to try and let the community know they needed to be more involved with people who were different from them by having pot luck dinners and having community get togethers.

In tenth grade she remained involved in school by performing in multiple plays and directing one herself. She also became a cheerleader then soon after became a cheer-leading assistant. Also she was the principal's assistant for a year.

In twelfth grade she became a teachers assistant for the special education department for a year.

Achieving many goals in high school was what she really wanted to do and when attending college for a year she demonstrated the same determination by directing and producing a play for a group of seniors in her freshmen year helped her proved to be all worth it. Before the end of the year came she had been in a play for children that went across the South part of Michigan. The play taught children how to tell the truth about things that happen and the consequences of their actions if they don't. After the first year of college ended her father passed away which sent her swirling in a deep state of depression and to cope with her heartache and feelings of bitterness, hopelessness and everything else she wrote. The writing helped heal herself. Trying to start over and forget, she moved to Florida where later she got married and decided to put her compilations together in a book of her life experiences to help others.

Mrs. Martinez now has a family of her own and through many years of determination, let downs, heart aches and triumph, she has collaborated her experiences in a one of kind piece of art which in a way is like her own diary of what its like being a little person in a big world where no one seems to understand yet pretends they do.

"....Someone believes in you" is a motto that Lizzie Martinez lives by. Just when you think that everyone has turned their back on you there is a light at the end of the tunnel and someone that understands.
