Biography

Clyde Lawrence is a Grammy-nominated composer, songwriter, artist, and producer from New York City. He is the co-leader of the eight-piece soul-pop band Lawrence, which he fronts alongside his sister Gracie. The group has released four studio albums, performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and Today, had multiple songs break into the Top 40 on the U.S. pop chart (a rare feat for an independent band), and been praised by The New York Times and NPR. They have toured extensively worldwide and built a dedicated global following, playing sold-out headline shows at iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall in NYC, The Wiltern in LA, and The Forum in London, opened for artists including The Rolling Stones, Jonas Brothers, and Charlie Puth, and performed at major festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, and many more.

In parallel with his work as a recording artist, Lawrence has established himself as a composer and songwriter for film and television, often in collaboration with fellow composer/producer Cody Fitzgerald or bandmate Jordan Cohen. His credits include projects for Disney, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and HBO, spanning a range of styles from intimate piano-and-guitar-driven scores to synth-based and symphonic orchestral compositions. His recent work includes the score for Hal & Harper (starring Mark Ruffalo, Lili Reinhart, and Cooper Raiff), which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and is now streaming on MUBI, as well as Will Ropp's debut feature Brian, which premiered at SXSW in 2026. His previous credits include Disney's Noelle (starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader), Amazon’s Landline (starring John Turturro, Edie Falco, and Jenny Slate), The Rewrite (starring Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei), and creating songs for HBO’s The Jinx: Part 2, Hulu’s recent reboot of Animaniacs (produced by Steven Spielberg), and many more.

Lawrence has also become a sought-after producer as part of the trio The Diner, alongside Jordan Cohen and Jonny Koh. Often in collaboration with producer Jon Bellion, the group has produced and written songs for artists including Jonas Brothers, Tori Kelly, Alec Benjamin, and Shawn Mendes.

In addition to his creative work, Lawrence has been an outspoken advocate for artists' rights in the live music industry. Following the publication of his widely shared New York Times op-ed on the economics of touring, he and Jordan Cohen were invited to testify before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee regarding competition and practices within the live entertainment and ticketing industries. He has continued to speak publicly about these issues in interviews with outlets including NBC News, Vice News, and Politico.

At five years old, became the youngest ever member of the Songwriters Guild of America after contributing to the soundtrack of the movie Miss Congeniality (2000).

Son of writer/director Marc Lawrence.

He wrote the song "Dance With Me Tonight", which was used in Music and Lyrics (2007), when he was just 13 years old. He also played the piano for this song on the soundtrack. The film was written and directed by Clyde's father, Marc Lawrence.
