One of the most respected film directors to come out of the independent scene in the Philippines. His most well-loved film is the highly artistic Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa (2011). Other works that received international recognition include Ang Panggagahasa kay Fe (2009), Debosyon (2013), and An Kubo sa Kawayanan (2015). A local group of critics cited his filmography for "cultural richness, originality, and lyricism."
