Biography

Katerina Stanisi is a Greek laiko singer regarded as one of the major female voices of popular Greek music. She spent part of her childhood in Germany after her family emigrated there, working from a young age in factories and restaurants before beginning to sing professionally as a teenager in local nightclubs. After returning to Greece in the mid-1970s, she started performing in night venues and soon became closely associated with Rita Sakellariou, initially appearing as her supporting vocalist both on stage and in recordings. Her breakthrough came in the early 1980s with the hit "Mystike mou erota", written by Takis Mousafiris, which established her as a leading presence in Athens nightlife and launched a commercially successful recording career. Over the following decades she collaborated with major figures of Greek music including George Dalaras, Dimitris Mitropanos, Stelios Kazantzidis, Stamatis Kraounakis, Lavrentis Mahairitsas, and Lena Platonos, while building a repertoire that combined classic laiko with more contemporary material. She became known for songs such as "Mia zoi plirono" and for her strong live performances in major music venues across Greece and abroad, maintaining a long-lasting presence in Greek popular music through recordings, concerts, television appearances, and collaborations that extended across several generations of artists.
