Biography

Joan Dangerfield founded the Rodney Dangerfield Institute at Los Angeles City College in 2017 and serves as the honorary chair of its star-studded advisory board. She is also president of Paper Clip Productions and Dangerfield Entertainment and provides exclusive consulting services to secure US artists and branded interactive exhibitions for private and government-owned companies in China, including Starclouds Entertainment led by the founder of Wanda Cinema. In 2012, Ms. Dangerfield hosted a reception at her Hollywood Hills home for the Official Chinese Delegation's US visit attended by government leaders and top executives from Tianjin Innovative Finance Investment Company, The Yintai Group, and China Investment Corporation.

Ms. Dangerfield served as Chairman of the Board (2014-2018) of ROCKDOME, Inc., an immersive exhibition technology company with proprietary patents currently developing multi-use entertainment venues intended to reinvent the live concert experience in strategic markets around the world.

In early 1995, Ms. Dangerfield developed a website for her husband, the legendary comedian Rodney Dangerfield, earning him the distinction of being the first celebrity to own and control his official site which featured daily jokes streamed in "Real Audio" format. The following year, Mr. Dangerfield was listed as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential People On The Internet" by Website Magazine - ahead of Bill Gates and Al Gore.

Ms. Dangerfield is the creative force behind a redesign of Rodney's website launched on his birthday in 2013 which earned him a prestigious international Webby Award for exhibiting remarkable achievement in the Best Navigation/Structure category. His site was also one of five nominees for Best Celebrity Website, along with Beyoncé and Kanye West. In 2018, Ms. Dangerfield announced that Rodney was nominated for another Webby Award. He lost to Stephen Colbert in the Best Celebrity/Fan Social category.

Ms. Dangerfield co-produced a two-hour documentary about Rodney's life for A&E in 2006. She has other Rodney-related projects currently in development.

Ms. Dangerfield's philanthropic passions involve her in a number of causes. She has served on the board of UCLA's Department of Neurosurgery since its inception in 2004. She is also affiliated with such organizations as the Los Angeles City College Foundation, American Cinematheque, Creative Coalition, National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, and the International Festival & Event Association. She previously served on the board of the Western Division of the American Friends of Hebrew University.
