Bethany Brown is a Canadian actor and emerging director and producer on a rapid rise, currently starring as the lead in A Safe Distance, which had its Worldwide Premiere at SXSW in March 2026. Brown plays Alex, who encounters a couple of fugitives while stranded in the British Columbia wilderness and becomes dangerously entangled in their relationship. She also serves as an Associate Producer on the film.
Brown recently broke out as series regular Corporal Laila Jackson in FOX’s hit crime drama Murder in a Small Town, delivering a standout performance as a troubled young officer battling trauma and addiction while searching for redemption in a coastal community. Brown is nominated for a Leo Award for her performance.
Her recent credits include BuzzFeed Studios and Lionsgate’s dark comedy-thriller F*, Marry, Kill, opposite Lucy Hale, as well as series regular role in Plan B (CBC Gem), and guest starring roles on Wild Cards (The CW), The Irrational (NBC), and Watson (CBS). She previously recurred on The Good Doctor, Charmed, The 100, and The Flash.
Brown is the recipient of the 2025 UBCP/ACTRA Award for Best Lead Performance in a Movie for We Three Kings as well as multiple Leo Award nominations across film and television, and her directorial debut has also gained international recognition, with her short Meet Me en Rêve winning multiple awards in 2024/2025 including Best LGBTQ Short at festivals in Paris, Barcelona, and Best Director in London and beyond.
With A Safe Distance launching at SXSW, Brown continues to establish herself as a formidable new leading talent in film and television.
Beyond film and television, Bethany's stage presence earned her a 2020 Jessie Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the play Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar. Her deep connection to the performing arts is rooted in her musical background; she began studying classical music at the age of three and, by nine, was a multi-award-winning professional violinist. A versatile musician, Bethany plays multiple instruments and has lent her singing talents to various projects. In 2021, her children's music project The Treebees amassed over 10 million views per episode on YouTube, earning Grammy and Juno nominations and further showcasing her artistic range.
Originally from Burnaby, BC, Bethany was raised on a 100-acre farm in the Okanagan, where she spent her early years milking cows, collecting eggs, riding horses, and churning butter. She moved to Vancouver at 17 to play collegiate soccer in the NAIA for Simon Fraser University but returned to the arts after a foot injury ended her athletic career. Bethany's journey from the classical stage to the screen has made her a multi-talented force in the industry, and she is poised for even greater accomplishments ahead.
