Amit Divekar(I)

Born in Mumbai on 9th November 1975, Amit is the grandson of prominent textile industrialist, late Purshottam Divekar of 'Swastik textile mill' He did his schooling from Maneckji Cooper Education Trust school and graduated with a degree in Commerce from Pune university. After completing a course in fashion design from NIFT, Amit worked with a few design houses until he established his own hand embroidery export company 'Asha overseas'. He got international acclaim for designing pop star Shakira's costume for her multi platinum song video "Hips don't lie". He also embroidered gowns for couturier 'Marchesa' worn by Hollywood stars like Cate Blanchett and Renee Zellweger on the red carpet. In 2013 he started getting offers to design costumes for films which had always been a dormant passion. Amit had already designed costumes for Dev Benegal's 'Split wide open' in 2000 after which he had digressed into export. He designed for Sachin Kundalkar's 'Happy journey' in 2013 and then on there was no looking back. Amit has since been designing for films and web series in Hindi, Marathi and English. Worked with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Ritesh Deshmukh etc. Amit was nominated for a Filmfare award for Best Costume for 'Pondicherry' 2022. Amit won the Star Pravah Best Costume award for 'Pondicherry' 2022. Amit was nominated for the Star Pravah award for Best Costume for 'Happy journey' 2015. Amit is also a styling professor in the renowned fashion institute INIFD, Mumbai.
