Stephen Mao

Stephen Mao is the executive producer of Guy Nattiv’s Academy Award winning film SKIN which received the Oscar for Best Live Action Short in 2019. He was born in Ann Arbor Michigan and grew up in Palo Alto California. His mother Petrina worked at Apple Computers and his father James C T Mao was a professor of business and finance at the University of British Columbia. He has a younger brother Jeffery who has Down syndrome. Mao began his professional career as a photographer and photojournalist with the Associated Press while briefly studying at the University of Southern California. He is President of Studio Mao where he oversees production and creative direction. Alongside his work in film he is actively involved in charitable initiatives including the donation of archival museum quality photographs from his personal collection.
