Has the distinction of scoring centuries in both his debut as well as penultimate ODI matches.

Appeared for the West Indies in 25 World Cup matches, scoring 854 runs at average of 37.

Formed a highly prolific opening batting partnership with Gordon Greenidge.

At the time of his retirement, his tally of 8648 runs and 17 centuries was a record in One Day Internationals, both of which were broken by Indians Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar respectively.

Third West Indian after Sir Frank Worrell and Conrad Hunte to carry his bat in a test innings and the first[the only other till date being South African Dean Elgar] to do so on three separate occasions: against Pakistan at Karachi in 1986 scoring 88, against England at The Oval in 1991 scoring 75 and finally again against Pakistan at Port-Of-Spain in 1993 scoring 143.[August 2022].
