On the difference between real filmmakers and wannabe filmmakers: The bottom-line is this: There are two kinds of filmmakers in the world, wannabes, and real filmmakers. Let me give you an example, a lot of people work out at a gym or in a weights room. Well, I have noticed two kinds of people while working out this year at my college's gym. There are the people who just put very minimal amounts of weight and will hardly put any effort into their workout to get the credit. Yet, on the other hand, there are people who actually work out to loose weight/build muscle, and push themselves by using a lot of weight to workout. The same thing applies not only to filmmakers, but artists in general. Real filmmakers are dedicated to filmmaking, like I am. All they talk about, all they think about is making movies, and they actually do, because they are so driven and dedicated that they do. While there are the filmmakers who want to be filmmakers, but are missing the drive and the motivation. They say they are going to make a movie and do this and shot that, do they? No. I've met so many filmmakers who tell me about movies they going to make and they are going to make them at this date, and the screenplay will be 120 pages, etc, etc. But they never do. My mom has a saying, "go big or stay in bed." I think she's on to something.
