Biography

American author and journalist. She currently [2007] resides in London, England.

Her most controversial novel - "We Need to Talk About Kevin" - won the 2005 Orange Prize, a guild that was founded in 1996 to support women's written works.

Father was a Presbyterian minister, her mother an executive for the National Council of Churches.

Controversially wrote "We need to talk about Kevin", about a dysfunctional parent-child relationship, while having no child of her own.

[In response to a Studio Audience Member asking what happens after the end of "We need to talk about Kevin"] That's your job. I did my job for over 400 pages.

I don't remember who it was who said that "writers have to have a little piece of ice in their heart", and I suppose I do.

If there were any justice there would be someone out there writing about me, but in my experience there's very little justice in this world.

Well of course we're all confined by one thing or another. One of the things that confines me now is that I don't have children. So the experience of parenthood and of lineage of carrying on a lineage is closed off to me. So that is a confinement. We make our choices and we are trapped by them.

[Identity Politics] The Movement pushes historically marginalized groups to deploy weakness as a weapon, thus you're strongly motivated to maintain that weakness.
