He was also instrumental in recognizing and publishing the earliest work of a number of prominent writers, including Jeffrey Eugenides, Edward P. Jones and Junot Diaz (winners respectively of the 2003, 2004 & 2008 Pulitzer Prizes for fiction), as well as Rick Bass, Claire Keegan, Vikram Chandra, Phoenix Nguyen, and award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh.
