Famous Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin was born on 4 September 1954 in Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Her father, Lutfar Rahman, was a Provincial Civil Service, and her mother, Begum Mouluda Khatun, was a vocal artist. From an early age, she liked music and when her older sister studied music with Dourgapasad Roy, she used to present there. Sabina attended her first stage show at age 7. She studied music with P.C. Gomez for 13 straight years. She enrolled in Dhaka University and completed her Master's in Social Science. She first rendered her voice for the film 'Jibon Theke Neya (1970)' to high acclaim, and went on to give her voice to more than 1500 songs in over 250 films. She received Bangladesh's National Film Award in Best Female Playback Singer category 13 times. She also received that country's highest honorary award, Ekushey Padak, in 1984.
