Biography

Sean Devlin

Mini bio

  • A writer, director, producer and comedian whose career began at the dawn of viral internet culture. A 2026 Netflix / Banff (DOV) Accelerator Fellow, he first broke through in 2011 with satirical content and pranks that went viral on Youtube. One of his videos topped YouTube sharing in Canada on the day it launched and within a week this online audience led to an immediate deal with CTV, where he created The Party, translating his comedic voice into a nationally broadcast short form satirical series. His debut feature film When The Storm Fades was produced by Chris Ferguson and Oddfellows Entertainment, the Vancouver producer who went on to produce Backrooms and Longlegs. The film earned the Emerging Canadian Director Prize at the 37th Vancouver International Film Festival, presented by The Director’s Guild of Canada.

His sophomore feature, Asog, executive produced by Adam McKay and Alan Cumming, premiered at Cannes Docs-in-Progress before screening at Tribeca, BFI London, SXSW Sydney, Warsaw, Goa, and São Paulo. The New York Times praised the film for "irreverently mixing genres and tones to create something proudly original, with humor, rage and imagination," while Time called it "a remarkable victory of society's poorest over entrenched corporate interests." Following the film's festival run and impact campaign, Ayala Land paid US$7 million in reparations to 784 families displaced from Sicogon Island. Effectively banned in the Philippines, Asog was described by Rolling Stone as "The Biggest Movie the Philippines Has Never Seen." The film has received an Audience Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival, ten international jury prizes, and the 2026 SIMA Grand Jury Catalyst Prize recognizing its social impact. In 2025, TOFA named Devlin one of "The Most Influential Filipinos in the World."

He served as Consulting Producer on the Academy Award-nominated Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, winner of the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy. He is an alum of the Rotterdam International Film Festival Producers Lab,

As a comedian, Devlin's debut stand-up album, Airports. Animals was released by Arts & Crafts Records, going on to be nominated for the 2022 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year. His stand-up has been broadcast on CBC/ JFL’s New Wave of Stand-Up and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
