  • At the age of 18, Filipe Vargas moved to Lisbon, where he graduated in marketing and advertising, while hosting a couple of children TV shows to pay for his studies. After working 10 years as a creative copy-writer in several advertising agencies, he moved to Spain to study theatre. He studied at the prestigious Juan Carlos Corazza acting school in Madrid, where Javier Bardem also attended. After graduating, in 2007, he got his first role in Portugal's most acclaimed series ever, "Conta-me como foi". Since then, he played a wide range of characters, from comedy to drama, in Portuguese and foreign series and movies. Fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish, he worked with directors Manoel de Oliveira ("Eccentricities of a blonde-hair girl" and "The strange case of Angelica"), Bille August ("Night train to Lisbon"), Jean Sagols ("Moi, Bernadette, j'ai vu"), Badreddine Mokrani ("Ce monde est fou"), Bruno de Almeida ("The lovebirds" and "Operação: Outono"), João Botelho ("The northern land" and "Disquiet") and Raul Ruiz ("Misteries of Lisbon" and "The lines of Wellington" - directed by Raul Ruiz's widow, Valeria Sarmiento), among others.

  • Filipe Vargas started to work as an actor at the age of 35 (in 2007) - previously he worked as a copy-writer for ten years in several advertising agencies. In his first feature film, "The lovebirds" by Buno de Almeida, Filipe Vargas co-starred with John Ventimiglia, best known for playing Artie Bucco in the series "The Sopranos". In Bille August's "Night train to Lisbon", Filipe Vargas played Christopher Lee's character, Father Bartolomeu, as a young man.
