- Justin Brooks is a criminal defense lawyer and law professor who is well known for his work freeing innocent people from prison. He is the Founder and Director of the California Innocence Project (californiainnocenceproject.org), an organization that has exonerated dozens of innocent people. Brooks regularly appears on television and in print media as a commentator on legal issues. He travels around the world speaking about wrongful convictions and has assisted in founding innocence organizations throughout Latin America. He is the author of the only textbook on the topic of wrongful convictions. Brooks is also a writer of fiction based on his work. He has written screenplays and novels. The Brian Banks movie is based on his client Brian Banks, an exoneree who was exonerated by the California Innocence Project and then went on to play in the NFL.
