Biography

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Anselm Chan is a Hong Kong film and television screenwriter, director, and producer.

Member of the Hong Kong Screenwriters Guild and Hong Kong Directors Guild, registered hypnotherapist, and certified hypnotherapy instructor. He has been awarded certification from the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (A.C.H.E.) as a registered hypnotherapist, and is also registered under the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) as a hypnotherapist and certified instructor on the subject.

He is a Director of Hong Kong films *Ready O/R Knott*, *Ready O/R Knott 2*, and *The Last Dance*.

*The Last Dance* shattered multiple Hong Kong box office records upon its release, ultimately grossing HKD 1.7 billion to claim the top spot as Hong Kong's highest-grossing Chinese-language film in history [5]. It also ranked third in Hong Kong's all-time box office for both Chinese and Western films, trailing only *Avengers: Endgame* and *Avatar*, while remaining the sole 2D-format film on the list.

The film earned 18 nominations at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Won Best Director at the 61st Asia Pacific Film Festival. Ranked among Douban's Top 10 Highest-Rated Films of 2024. Additionally, *The Last Dance* received the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild Annual Recommended Screenplay Award and the Best Screenplay Award at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards.

In 2025, *The Last Dance* claimed both the "Audience Choice Silver Mulberry Award" and the "Black Dragon Award" at Italy's Udine Far East Film Festival, standing as the only Hong Kong film honored at the event that year.

In June 2025, Chan was invited to serve as an annual judge (recommender) for the film project market at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Additionally, "The Last Dance" was selected as Hong Kong's entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

The film also received nominations for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Feature Film at the 38th Golden Rooster Awards, ultimately winning the Best Screenplay award. Later, at the Asian World International Film Festival, regarded as a precursor to the Oscars' International Feature Film category, Anselm Chan won the "Best Director" award for "The Last Dance."

In December 2025, at the inaugural Golden Lion Awards held in Singapore, the film received 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, and ultimately won the Best Film award.
