- Murray Mednick was a writer, known for Gary's Walk (2009), Head of the Class (1986) and Girl on a Bed (2005). He died on October 17, 2025.
- In 1978, he founded Padua Hills Playwrights Workshop at Claremont College in Southern California.
- After working at Theatre Genesis in New York, he left the East Coast to settle in Los Angeles in 1974 at the age of 34, when he was invited by the Mark Taper Forum to work on an adaptation of The Oresteia.

- Founded with playwright Sam Shepard the band The Heavy Metal Kids.
- His published plays include Villon and other plays (2016), Hipsters in Distress (2005), Three Plays (2003), The Coyote Cycle (1993), by Padua Hills Press. His play Switchback was published in 1997 by (Sun and Moon Press).
