In 2012, he was sentenced to five years in prison for raping three clients he had treated in the clinic. He was also given a ten-year professional ban.

In 2010, he stopped his rehab clinic due to a conflict with the landlord and a year later his clinic was declared bankrupt. Around the same time, Bakker came under fire because he was accused of sexual abuse of clients from his addiction clinic.

In 2019, he was again accused of a sexual offense, namely sex with a minor. According to Bakker, the girl was of age when he had a sexual relationship with her, but the judge did not believe that.

Bakker was known as an experience expert in addiction care. His father was an alcoholic and he himself was addicted to drugs for a long time. After he had renoniated the drugs, he started a rehab clinic in Amsterdam and Wassenaar in 2004.
