Biography

Grant Raymond Cooper (Bashore) began mime studies in the 1970's with Dr. E. Reid Gilbert at the Wisconsin Mime Theatre and Valley Studio which the New York Times regarded as "the center of mime training in the United States". At the Valley Studio Grant studied yoga, acting, mime, mask, dance, voice, and martial arts. Grant interned two summers at the School for Mime Theatre at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and he has studied with Steve Wasson and Corrine Soum of the International School of Corporeal Mime (London, U.K.). Grant completed an eight-year residency of study with Philip G. Bennett (teaching assistant to Sonia Moore) in the Stanislavsky system of acting. Grant is also an instructor in the Stanislavsky Method of Physical Actions. As a result, Grant represents a unique talent in both the stylized world of silent theatre and the speaking "Theatre of Living Experience". He has spent decades as a practicing criminal defense attorney. Grant has co-starred on NBC's "Magnum P.I." and CBS's "NCIS: Hawaii." In film, he often portrays the gravitas of one burdened with social responsibility: quiet and compassionate in private yet a charismatic leader in public. Grant is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild and AEA.
