- Jos De Haes was born on April 22, 1920 in Leuven, Flanders, Belgium. He was an actor and writer, known for Les belles heures de Flandre (1961), Herfstpoëzie (1961) and Beaudelaire is gestorven in de zomer (1967). He died on March 1, 1974 in Jette, Belgium.
- He was also a translator of classical Greek texts and responsible for literary and dramatic broadcasts on Belgian Radio and Television (BRT).
- In 1965, he was awarded the Belgian Triennial Poetry Prize.

- De Haes' poetry never reached a large audience. His work is too closed for that and his themes are also not very accessible. That theme is dominated by a few basic themes that have a personal character. 'Light' is such a key concept in his poetry, where that light stands for apollonian purity, but also for the consciousness of transience and imperfection.
- After two years of teaching and army service, he joined the N.I.R. (National Institute of Radio Broadcasting, now BRT) as a commentator. In 1961 he became head of service for Literary and Dramatic Broadcasting.
