She was the runner-up contestant in the Gimme the Mic competition, in Houston, Texas, in 2005.

She auditioned for American Idol (2002), but didn't make the cut, at the time she was 23. Four years later, she auditioned a second time, and made through the auditions.

She won top prize at age 17 at a Super Show in Flint, Michigan. At the time, she was singing "Amazing Grace".

Gave birth to her 2nd child at age 29, a daughter Ava LaRynn Davis in September 2009. Child's father is her husband, Larry Davis.

Gave birth to her 1st child at age 23, a daughter Brionne on February 20, 2003. Child's father is her ex-boyfriend.
