Sanjaya took his General Educational Development exam (also known as General Equivalency Diploma exam) after his sophomore year in high school.

Lived in Berkeley, California, USA during the late 1990s.

His father is a Bengali Indian immigrant, born in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India, and his mother is American-born. Sanjaya's maternal grandfather was of Italian descent and his maternal grandmother was born in Utah, USA, of Dutch, Irish, and English origin.

The ring Sanjaya wears was his late grandfather's. His grandfather died when Sanjaya was five years old. Sanjaya wears the ring to have "confidence and support from a higher place".
