In June 2009, he was having dinner in a restaurant in northwest London when a gunman burst in and began firing shots at a man who had fled from him into the restaurant. The man was then shot in the leg and taken to hospital with another man who had been injured by broken glass. Pym was unhurt in the incident, however, his 15 year old son, whom he had pulled under a table to protect him from the gunman, had to undergo therapy afterwards.
