Biography

Aldo Ruggiero is an Italian-born visual effects supervisor, senior compositor, and creative technologist from Avellino, Italy. He moved to Hollywood in 1999 and built his career around filmmaking, photography, editing, digital effects, compositing, and visual storytelling. That combination of creative craft and technical curiosity became the foundation for a career spanning set, post-production, compositing, supervision, and pipeline development.

Ruggiero has worked in visual effects for about 20 years across feature film, episodic television, and streaming productions. He is known for combining filmmaker-facing supervision with a hands-on technical background, having worked as a compositor, technical director, pipeline developer, on-set supervisor, compositing supervisor, and senior visual effects supervisor. His work has included photoreal plate integration, invisible effects, environments, water and atmospheric work, digital crowds, gore, destruction, cleanup, and complex CG-to-live-action integration.

His credits include Last Resort, The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Midnight, Texas, Amazing Stories, Coming 2 America, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Uglies, The Piano Lesson, Ruth & Boaz, and additional film and television projects for major studios and streaming platforms. His work has spanned projects for companies and platforms including Marvel, Disney, Apple TV+, Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount.

Ruggiero is a two-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee and two-time Visual Effects Society Award nominee. His Emmy nominations include Last Resort: "Captain" and The Walking Dead episode "No Way Out," where he was recognized as compositing supervisor. His Visual Effects Society nominations were for Last Resort: "Captain" in outstanding FX/simulation animation and outstanding compositing for a broadcast program.

In addition to traditional visual effects supervision and compositing, Ruggiero has a strong background in pipeline development, Python-based tools, and emerging production technology. He has worked with AI-assisted visual effects exploration, virtual production, real-time workflows, LED volume production, Unreal Engine-based content, photogrammetry, HDRI and production-data capture, and FAA Part 107 drone operation. His work reflects a long-running interest in bridging creative direction, production realities, and new technology in service of story and image-making.
