Biography

  • Juani Feliz is an actress born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the Bronx. Juani got bit by the acting bug after getting involved in her middle school's play of Shakespeare's Othello. She immediately fell in love with the craft and begged her parents to drive her around the city for acting classes and open calls. It was during her high school years that Juani met her first manager and landed her first few roles in film and tv. Juani's acting career took a backseat when she left NYC to attend Harvard College. Wanting to explore the sciences in college, she studied Biomedical Engineering at Harvard. Right out of college, Feliz worked at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering in Boston, where she worked on a clinical trial for a melanoma cancer vaccine and helped develop biomaterials and drug delivery systems. During this time she also completed a Master's degree at Harvard. Despite having a blooming career in bioengineering, Juani yearned to return to acting. She moved back to NYC in 2016 to restart her acting career. Since her return, Juani has worked on various TV shows and various films for both the big screen and small screen. On the film side, Juani can be seen in Alex Garland's A24 action epic Civil War and will be seen starring in the upcoming horror thriller Birthrite. On the TV side, Juani will next be seen in the third installment of Ridley Scott's AMC anthology series The Terror, titled Devil in Silver. She can also be seen as Alejandra Lopez in FX's Fleishman Is In Trouble, as Carmen in Ava DuVernay's HBO Max series DMZ , and as Isabela Benitez-Santiago in Tracy Oliver's Amazon comedy series Harlem. Most recently, Juani was tapped to headline CBS' potential spinoff of The Equalizer alongside Titus Welliver. Their characters, a father-daughter duo, were introduced in a backdoor pilot episode of The Equalizer. Juani became available after CBS opted to not move forward with the Equalizer spinoff. Soon after, she was cast as a series regular on Ryan Murphy's new series 9-1-1 Nashville for ABC and 20th Television. Juani's on-screen presence has started to garner the attention of Latin America. For two years in a row, Juani was nominated for the "Best Actor/Actress Abroad" award in the Dominican Republic's biggest award show, Premios Soberano. Last year she was nominated for her work in Harlem and the previous year she was nominated for her work in Fleishman Is In Trouble. In 2022, Juani was named one of People en Español's "50 Mas Bellos" ("50 Most Beautiful") of 2022. Juani's goal is to play roles and tell stories that break the mold and defy stereotypes of Latina women in America, just as she has been able to do in real life. She hopes to use her artistic platform to inspire strength, confidence and possibility in women, people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and anyone that finds themselves fighting adversity in pursuit of their dreams.
