- The first film Garrett directed was called "Touch," a video short that was three minutes long. It was shot in 2010. Before he completed the final audio mix, the film was lost due to a hard drive failure.
- In February 2011, Garrett flew to New Zealand and lived there for a month trying to get a job on the crew of The Hobbit films, but had to return on March 8th (the day the films began shooting) when his mother's health suddenly failed. She passed away within 24 hours of his return home to Los Angeles.
