Biography

Atul Mongia

Overview

  • Born
    September 30, 1978 · New Delhi, India

Mini bio

  • Atul Mongia has been associated with Hindi cinema for a period spanning two decades, establishing himself as one of the industry's most acclaimed casting directors, with films like Queen, Lootera, Titli, LSD, Shanghai and Shor in the City, to his credit. His strength also lies in training actors and helping them deliver more truthful performances. He has trained contemporary Indian actors like Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Saif Ali Khan, Vicky Kaushal and continues to train many others.

Atul was the pioneer in starting acting workshops in Hindi films for the film LSD in 2009, and since then has done workshops for over 40 films, working with prominent film directors like Zoya Akhtar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Sharat Kataria, Navdeep Singh, Vikramaditya Motwane, Kanu Behl and Reema Kagti; establishing workshops more as a norm than an exception in Hindi cinema.

Atul has been training actors since 2000. At the age of 21, he taught acting at the accomplished Imago acting school in Delhi, founded by theatre veteran Barry John. Since then he has come a long way, taking many public workshops for acting aspirants all over the country.

He is also a writer and a director having written over four feature length scripts and has directed four acclaimed, short independent films, the last one being produced by director/producer Vikramaditya Motwane. He's been an associate director on Ragini MMS, Titli (Cannes, 2014) and Lootera.
