Biography

Lamb Films is an Independent Film Company from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Larry Cowan set up Lamb Films in 2007 to provide a platform for local talent and to create a community of filmmakers.

After years of working in the Hospitality Industry pretending to be a manager, Larry left to pursue his film-making dreams by sweeping up rubbish on film sets. While gaining as much experience as he could in every department from Tim Robbins stand-in, to set security, Larry was keen to put all these skills together and formed Lamb Films.

In the Last 12 years Lamb Films have produced all types of films for all types of audiences, this ranges from feature films, short films to cross-community media projects. Their films have played at hundreds film festivals worldwide, won awards, and some are available on i-tunes.

Community Media projects is a big part of Lamb Films, they have produced and facilitated over 25 projects including The Belfast City Council Youth Form Award 2013 Winning: Interface Diaries.

In 2021 Lamb Films are filming The Trick Room and have hope to film "Paperboy in 2022"

Feature Film development is an in the main field of Lamb Films with "The Choirmaster" ,"Magennis VC"' and "The Rules of Perspective" in development and activity seeking co-production partners.

Larry Cowan - Filmmaker, Producer & Educator Larry Cowan is a Belfast-based filmmaker, producer and educator, and the founder of Lamb Films, established in 2007 to nurture local talent and contribute to the growth of Northern Ireland’s independent film sector. Over nearly two decades, Larry has developed and delivered a wide range of screen projects including short films, feature films, documentaries and community arts productions, many of which explore cultural identity, place and heritage.

Through Lamb Films, he has worked with broadcasters, arts organisations and community groups to create projects that connect professional filmmaking with grassroots participation. His work has screened at international film festivals and across broadcast and digital platforms, helping to showcase stories from Northern Ireland to wider audiences.

Larry is particularly committed to cultural storytelling and heritage-driven narratives, often collaborating with communities to ensure their voices and experiences are authentically represented on screen. A strong advocate for skills development, he regularly mentors emerging filmmakers and teaches practical film production, supporting the next generation of creatives across Northern Ireland.

Alongside his professional productions, Larry has developed numerous community-focused arts and film initiatives, using filmmaking as a tool for education, inclusion and creative expression. His work continues to bridge professional filmmaking with community engagement, strengthening the region’s creative ecosystem and encouraging new voices in regional cinema. In 2026, Larry will be releasing a diverse slate of new work, including the short film Neon Saints, the feature film Rozkvet, and the documentary Lough Shore Lives.
