- Disappeared at Venice Beach on 18 May 1926, and was presumed drowned, but resurfaced on 23 June, three days after her mother received a ransom note demanding $500,000. She claimed she was kidnapped and taken to a shack in Mexico, but escaped. However, gossip had her "shacked up" with her married radio operator, who disappeared at the same time. A subsequent grand jury was dismissed for lack of evidence.
