Biography

Derek Miller was born in Chicago and raised in it's improv theaters. He took his quick-thinking larger-than-life brand to Hollywood. Where for twenty years, he acted, wrote, directed and improvised - all before moving to the UK in 2018 - where he's still doing all of these things.

He's recently worked with Tim Burton on Wednesday - and Edgar Wright on The Running Man (improvising for both legends.) He also brought his skills to a new film with Rebel Wilson releasing in 2026.... and he does some dramatic stuff as well. Popping up in an upcoming Apple series and a diplomatic thriller about to shoot.

As a kid, he honed his impish and affable persona at the Piven Theatre Workshop and Interlochen Arts Camp. He attended Indiana University where he co-founded improv troupe "Full Frontal Comedy" (30 years strong!) - all while taking classes at Second City and Improv Olympic

Derek was a mainstay of the L.A. improv community - performing and teaching for over 20 years at Second City, UCB and at i.O. West with "Opening Night: The Improvised Musical!" which ran for over 1000 performances. He still improvises around the UK and Ireland. He guest starred in "Dreamgun:Film Reads" at the Edniburgh Fringe Festival three years in a row.

His first roles in L.A. consisted of recurring roles on Scrubs and guest appearances on MADTv. In 2009, Derek landed the series "The Hills: According to Me" for MTv (where he played over 20 roles) and then the Comedy Central series, "Secret Girlfriend" playing the series reg role of Phil (and a consulting writer.) In TBS' hour-long comedy "Wedding Band," Derek played Barry, the band's drummer - an instrument he had to learn! They released forty songs on iTunes written by Adam Schlesinger and Steve Gold.

Derek co-wrote the pilot "Mid to Late" with Nicole Parker. Starring Eliza Coupe and Ryan Hansen. He acted and wrote alongside SNL cast members Chris Redd and Alex Moffat on the NBC Untitled Sketch Show. As well as working with Michael Bay on Transformers 3 (he improvised there as well)

Derek is busy as ever, sharing the screen with Chweitel Ejiofor, Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Peter Sarsgard. He teaches screen acting privately and for Universities around the U.K.
