The name Pat McCall was a combination of his family nickname and the maiden name of his mother Margaret McCall.

Pat McCall's mother, Margaret McCall, wrote a monthly column in "Children's Playmate Magazine" in which Pat McCall interviewed child actors with the help of his "Aunt Peggy". Over the years he was pictured in the magazine talking to celebrities like Shirley Temple, Dickie Moore, the Chaplin children and members of the "Our Gang" comedies.
