- Daniel Parkes is known for Ambleton Delight (2009), Tales from the Great War (2023) and A.R.P. (2006).
- As a teenager he won a national 'make-your-own-ad' TV competition with a 30-second commercial about pet food starring his sister and cat Mishka. The pet food company Nestle appreciated the free advertising and sent him a large box full of a selection of their chocolate.
- Born in New Zealand his first word as a baby was 'light', perhaps showing an early interest in cinematography and the art of 'painting with light'.
