Dr. John E. Glassco was born in Los Angeles and was raised there. His father, a graduate of the California Institute of Technology, was primarily responsible for his fascination with science. He traveled all over the world during his years of advanced education. He is a Board Certified Pathologist, trained at Vanderbilt University, The University of Vienna (Austria), and U.C.L.A.. Dr. Glassco has worked in two large medical reference laboratories with a global reach dealing with cancer diagnostics, prognostics, and therapeutic testing. Presently (2017), he is a consultant in Pathology and Molecular Oncology for two medical business development/marketing firms.

In the past, he has worked on many motion picture and television projects, mainly as a medical advisor but also, occasionally, as a science advisor. In 1993, he founded "Sci-Med Consulting Group", a "one-stop-shop" for medical and scientific consultants and advice. One of the first projects that Dr. Glassco was personally involved in was as the medical advisor for the "Star Trek, The Next Generation" show during the seventh and final season, working with the then science advisor Naren Shankar and later, André Bormanis. He continued doing this and has worked on many episodes of the several subsequent renditions of the show up to the final series "Star Trek, Enterprise, as well as some of the feature films which were spawned therefrom.

In March of 1995, Judy Raphael did a short article on Dr. Glassco's consulting activities in the "Palm Latitudes" section of the "L.A. Times Magazine" entitled "Future Doc". His activities were also talked about in the Spring 1995 Sci-Fi Collector's Edition of "T.V. Guide", the June 1999 (#122) issue of "Star Trek Communicator", and in the December 1995 issue of "New Scientist" magazine. Popular Arts Entertainment did a syndicated T.V. series called "Lights! Action! Hollywood! hosted by Alan Thicke" which featured Dr. Glassco in one of their segments. Alan and that show were, in fact, responsible for his picking up the moniker "Doc Hollywood". He was also a one-time forensic medicine commentator during the O.J. Trial for "E! Entertainment Television".

Some of the other television shows with which Dr. Glassco has been involved as medical/science advisor include: "Northern Exposure", Picket Fences", "Babylon-5", Beakman's World", "Diagnosis Murder", "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", "Law and Order", "Touched by an Angel", "X-Files", "SeaQuest DSV", "Mad About You", "Murder She Wrote", "Earth 2", and "Threshold", as well as the MOW for Universal T.V. "Donor Unknown" and the feature "City of Angels".

Dr. Glassco was hired (2018) by Fox Television to act as the Medical Advisor for its television series "The Passage" which aired on CBS for one season. Most recently he has become a full-time film maker and producer for his production company "Paraglass Productions" (https://www.paraglassproductions.com/) and is a cinematographer and Segment Producer for the Cable TV program "Beyond the Gates" which airs on the Laguna Woods "Village TV". He was recently honored with a "Goldies" (Video Club of Laguna Woods) award for his animated short "Lego Houdini".

He resides with his lovely wife in Laguna Niguel, California and has one daughter and three wonderful grandchildren.
