Served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-69 . In 1967 he deployed to Vietnam with a newly formed unit, the 1st Searchlight Battery. The Battery was attached to the 12th Marine Regiment (artillary). There were 18 searchlights in the Battery and were deployed across the I Corps area (roughly from Da Nang to the DMZ) . The Battery was in 38 combat operations. He was awarded the Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon for his service in Vietnam.

Roots to the entertainment business go back to his parents, Charles and Elena "Jimmie" Redlick, who both worked at radio station WHN in New York during the mid 1930s. Charles produced a jazz program. Jimmie was the receptionist for Major Bowes' "The Original Amateur Hour". Friends of the family included: Lew Wasserman, Jules Stein, Lyle Wheeler,George Slaff (Samuel Goldwyn's attorney), Sidney Korshak, Sophie Tucker, Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor & Charlie Correll (Amos & Andy). Attraction to the business began when he met director/writer Billy Wilder, when he was 15 on set of Irma la Douce, being filmed at Samuel Goldwyn Studios. Uncle of animator /filmmaker Dillon Markey. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps (1965-1969) and spent 1 year in Vietnam (1967-1968).

In 1974 he interviewed for a job at American Zoetrope (San Francisco). "The Conservation" was in post-production and "Godfather II" was in pre-production. The interview was with Ed Imparato and it was done in Francis Coppola's office. On the corner table next to the sofa was the Oscar for GF I. Ed said he liked having interviews in Francis' office to show off the Oscar. In 1974 answering machines were not a commodity (he didn't have one) and he missed the call about employment as an electrician on GF II.

Worked at Cisco Systems from 2000-2004 as a Service and Support Manager on the Intel Corp account , worldwide. He traveled to 7 countries implementing best practices and in Fiscal Year 2002 was awarded the Right Stuff Award (1 of 3 awarded globally ) .

In January 1973, he attended Larry Booth's "The Film School" in Half Moon Bay, CA He studied 16mm film production with another student, Paul Stojanovich, who became a producer on the TV reality show "COPS", in 1989.

Second cousin once removed is writer Irving Vendig (b. 1902) who worked on 4,908 episodes of The Edge of Night.

Lifetime member of the 3D Marine Division Association, Golden Gate Chapter. 3D Marine Division was the division he deployed to Vietnam. Over the course of his 4 year enlistment, he served with the 1st and 2nd Marine Divisions.

In 1991, while at in a Corte Madera, CA park, Bill Graham (famous impresario, rock concert promoter and actor from the 1960's) asked him if he wanted to join in a softball game (which he did). Bill Graham died not long after when the helicopter he was traveling in hit a high voltage tower on the south west side of Highway 37, in Sonoma County.

In 1969 he was a client of attorney George Moscone, then a California State Senator. Moscone went on to be Mayor of San Francisco in 1974 and was assassinated in office on November 27, 1978, by former San Francisco Board of Supervisor Dan White, who also assassinated Supervisor Harvey Milk.

He did 5 parachute jumps at Yolo Drop Zone, Davis, CA in October and September 1979. His instructor was George Morar, who did nearly 3000 jumps over 20 years. He had trained over 75,000 students. George died on Dec. 12, 1983 when his chute accidentally deployed in the plane.

His aunt, Marjorie Gestring Redlick, (1922-1992), was an American diver who made history at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Born in Los Angeles, California, Gestring displayed an early talent for diving, joining the Los Angeles Athletic Club where she honed her skills. At just 13 years old, she became the youngest athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, a record that stood for decades. Her victory in the women's 3-meter springboard event was a remarkable achievement, especially during a time when the world was on the brink of World War II, and the Olympics were used as a platform for political propaganda by Nazi Germany. Gestring's career was interrupted by World War II, which led to the cancellation of the 1940 and 1944 Olympic Games. Despite this, she remained a prominent figure in diving, winning multiple national championships. Her legacy is remembered for breaking age barriers in sports and inspiring young athletes worldwide. Marjorie Gestring's contributions to diving continue to be celebrated for their historical significance and impact on the sport.

Jeff Redlick is distantly related to composer and arranger Buddy Bregman (1930-2017).

Jeff Redlick is a distant relative of actor, producer Matt Salinger (b. 1960) Son of author J.D. Salinger.

In the 1960's he met Col. Mitchell Paige . He was a Marine who in WW II won the Medal of Honor for his actions in Guadacanal. That meeting influenced his enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1965.

In 1952 he was taught how to swim by Clyde Devine. Mr. Devine worked at various schools in the southern San Francisco Bay Area as an instructor and coach.
