Trivia

  • The orchestra cut her off right as she was to begin her Oscar acceptance speech after Glen Hansard gave his when they won Best Original Song at the 2008 Oscar Awards. The show's producer, Gilbert Cates, told Jon Stewart during the commercial break to have Irglova come back out and, in an Oscar first, be given a second chance to give her acceptance speech.
  • Markéta has spent nearly half of her life in Ireland, so (unlike her character in Once (2006), who is supposed to be a recent immigrant) she has adopted an Irish dialect to some extent.
  • Was in a relationship with Glen Hansard (2007-2008).
  • As of 2016, Markéta Irglová is the youngest Oscar winner outside of an acting category, winning Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly" at age 19 (she turned 20 four days after the ceremony).
  • Recorded the song "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" with Glen Hansard for the I'm Not There (2007) soundtrack.
