Biography

Bruce McAvaney was born on June 22, 1953 in Ferryden Park, South Australia, Australia. He is an actor, known for The 90s the Decade that Delivered (2001), The Noughties (2010) and The Cup (2011).

Awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in June 2002 for his services to sports broadcasting and to the community through charitable and sporting organisations. In the same year, he was also inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

Earned the nickname "Mr. Olympics" because he has been involved in every summer Olympics telecast except one since Moscow 1980 (when he hosted ADS7's end of the Adelaide telecast). The only exception is London 2012, when the Australian broadcast rights were awarded to the Nine Network.

In 2022, he was inducted into the TV Week Logie Hall of Fame, becoming only the second sports broadcaster to receive this honour.
