Neal Hutcheson is an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker, photographer and author with a large body of work documenting cultures in transition around the world. Several of his films feature the well-known Appalachian moonshiner Popcorn Sutton, including The Last One (2009) and A Hell of a Life (2014). Hutcheson's film honors include three regional Emmys and six additional Emmy nominations, a North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship, the North Carolina Folklore Society's Brown Hudson Award, and the North Carolina Filmmaker Award. Hutcheson is also the author of the award winning The Moonshiner Popcorn Sutton (2021), and editor and foreword author of Stories I Lived to Tell (2024).
