Biography

David A. Vargas is an award winning Cuban-American filmmaker from Miami. His feature film debut, "Love and Hostages," had 7 official festival sections. It received worldwide distribution in 2016 after winning Best Florida Feature at the Silver Springs International Film Festival, and Best Feature at the Widescreen Film Festival as well as the Hollywood Florida Film Festival.

His follow-up project to the feature was a 6 episode web-series that he wrote and directed called "Hialeah." The series went viral after finding an audience on social media of more than 30,000 fans in a week. Fans described it as the Cuban "Modern Family" or the revival of the hit 70s sitcom "¿Que Pasa, USA?" Hialeah won Best Web Series at the NATPE Omni Cultural TV Festival in 2021 and at the Florida Comedy Film Festival in 2020.

David works as an episodic director at Mindshow, a groundbreaking animation studio that is disrupting the industry by using hybrid tech that combines motion capture with VR. Since 2021 he has directed over 300 minutes of animated content, including an episode of Netflix's Emmy-Award winning kid's show "Storybots: A Space Adventure." Currently he directs the action-packed "Hot Wheels City," and "Monster High" for Mattel.

David continues to oversee his LA/Miami based production company, Penilican Pictures, producing films, documentaries and commercials.
