Quotes

Harry Dyer

  • Being a real artist is about creating something and then presenting it to the world to do with what they will. The praise and the congratulations is a bonus.
  • People get so bogged down over small things every day. When you look at the world from the point of view of an atheist, whether you are or not, life seems so short. In the bigger picture, arguments, disputes and worries mean nothing so don't waste your valuable time on them and just enjoy life because one day your curtain's coming down.
  • Acting gives us the chance to be children again. We 'play' and we make stories for people to enjoy. Children don't play for money, popularity or status and neither should we. Children play because it's fun, exciting and creates new worlds and so should we.
  • People say would you not just want to get a proper job or retire from it if it provided enough. How can you retire a part of yourself? Acting is part of who I am and is more real to me than sticking my head in front of an office computer living an existence for the next 5 decades. I don't want an existence I want a life. Acting is my life.
  • I think one of the most important things about this profession is the ability to listen. Being a thinker gives you that capacity by default. I will always take in what I'm told by employers, mentors, peers and friends otherwise how do I learn and improve and adapt? It astounds me when I meet actors, directors or film makers who don't take note of anything they are offered because 'they know best'. I have no intention of stagnating or getting comfy. I will take the advice, the criticism and the lines of other artists and make use of what I am given.
