Teresa Rita Lopes

  • She was also a professor of Comparative Literatures at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon, and co-director of the Portuguese-language poetry magazine Orion.
  • Between 1963 and 1982 she lived in Paris, France, where she was a professor at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University and where she defended the doctoral thesis entitled "Fernando Pessoa and the symbolist drama - inheritance and creation".
  • Her awards were the Lisbon City Award (1988 for poetry), the Pen Club Award (1990, essay), the Unicer/Letters and Letters Grand Essay Prize (1989, essay) and the Portuguese Association of Writers Theater Award 2001.
  • She left Portugal in 1963, when she was being persecuted by the PIDE, political police of the dictatorship, exiled herself in France, until she returned to dedicate herself to the study of thousands of documents of Fernando Pessoa's estate, at a time when the poet was still little known internationally.
