Zane Frazier

IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
Zane Troy Frazier is an American former professional kick-boxer and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. Originating out of North Hollywood, California, Frazier was inspired by the Bruce Lee-led movie Fist of Fury (1972), and started training in martial arts at the age of six. A basketball scholarship lead him to put martial arts on hold to attend the University Of Idaho. However, after being the victim of an attack by multiple opponents, Frazier resumed martial arts training.

Frazier trained in American kenpo, boxing, karate, wrestling, and later became a martial arts instructor. During his time as an instructor, he had a rivalry with fellow instructor and martial artist, Frank Dux. Their issue escalated during a martial arts convention when Frazier confronted Dux about some alleged threats. Per Frazier's account, he dominated their physical altercation. However, Dux's version of events was that Frazier and others attacked him without warning. Either way, the incident increased Art Davie's interest in Frazier. Davie had co-created Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and first heard about Frazier from Frank Trejo Frank Trejo. Frazier was selected to be a participant in UFC's first event, UFC 1: The Beginning (1993), where he fought Kevin Rosier. In a classic bout, Rosier took the initiative landing the early punches and took Frazier down to the mat. Frazier recovered, backed Rosier up against the cage, and landed his own punches and knee strikes. However, Frazier tired, Rosier capitalized, landing more punches and ended the fight with foot stomps. As it turned out, Frazier suffered an asthma attack during the fight which resulted in his hospitalization. Frazier was brought back to compete at UFC 9: Motor City Madness (1996) against Nobuaki Kakuda. Frazier took Worsham down earlier, but was reversed with Worsham on top. Worsham remained on top, landed numerous punches which forced a submission from Frazier.

Zane Frazier's only wins in MMA were against Kazuo Sakurada in Shooto in 2001, Takayuki Okada in King of the Cage, Ron Rumpf and Melville Calabaca. The last two bouts were held in the Colorado-based Worldwide Fighting Championship (WFC). In the WFC heavyweight title bout with Calabaca, an aggressive Frazier quickly hurt Calabaca with punches standing, and then on the ground to win the championship. In 2006, Frazier competed for his next championship opportunity for No Limit Fighting in Texas. He lost to Richard Blake early in the first round. Frazier had most of his championship successes in kickboxing, defeating the likes of Takeru Taisei and Nobuaki Kakuda. In kick-boxing, Frazier was a four-time International Karate Champion, and the World Kickboxing Federation Super-Heavyweight Champion. In Mixed Martial Arts, he was the Worldwide Fighting Championship (WFC) Heavyweight Champion.
