They see countries like China and Saudi Arabia achieving remarkable economic success without following the U.S. free-market model. They see from those countries that personal freedom and rule of law are not universal values. They believe the U.S. can promote these values more effectively by realizing their highest forms at home than by selling or imposing them abroad.
