Biography

Alfonso Chin is a cinematographer and visual artist based in Vancouver, Canada.

His journey to Vancouver began in Mexico where he was born. His multicultural background sparked a desire to experience stories from various cultures, which he found through world cinema, painting and photography at a young age.

He has filmed with different formats from 35mm, 16mm to the latest digital emulsions. From commercials to engaging narratives and documentaries, the story and characters always come first and are always the primary motivation to his approach to lighting and camera movements. He also has a passion and understanding for non-traditional storytelling.

Alfonso's cinematography for each story is shaped to bring out an emotion and to create a visual language that is unique for the story. In a similar way that music, painting and other art forms stimulate a subconscious impact on the audience. Thus, he draws his influences from world cinema, graphic design, architecture, fine art, photography, music and painting.

Alfonso has garnered nominations and awards at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, Ariel Awards (Mexican Academy Awards), and prestigious international festivals.
