Jackson is best known under her pseudonym La Roux. She initially collaborated with writer-producer Ben Langmaid, but they cut ties some time after the release of her first album.

Her parents are actress Trudie Goodwin and actor Kit Jackson.

Her stage name "La Roux" translates to "the redhead". However, it is grammatically incorrect. According to Jackson, she found the name in a book for baby names. She nonchalantly explained the grammatical error with "It was an English book!".

She initially worked with producer Ben Langmaid, with whom she formed the band La Roux. Both have produced the album "La Roux", which was not only a success, but also won a Grammy award. Following a conflict between the duo, Langmaid left the group, Jackson then became a solo artist and kept the band's name as her stage name.

Her 2020 released album "Supervision" was not only her third album, but also the first she released independently.
