Biography

Matt Boyd is an American director born in Virginia and raised in Augsburg, Germany and throughout the American South. His works include critically acclaimed features, documentaries, concert films and portrait profiles with today's leading artists, athletes, agencies and brands. His debut feature "A Rubberband Is An Unlikely Instrument" world premiered at Toronto's Hot Docs International Doc Fest and was a New York Times Critics Pick in 2013. Variety's John Anderson hailed the film A work of dreamily seductive virtues that stretches the limits of nonfiction. Boyd's TV and branded work include short and long form series, broadcast and online campaigns for a long list of brands and networks to include IFC, Bose, Spin, Vice, 1800 Tequila, GE Transportation, Kia, Spotify, Air Jordan, Vevo, Sprite, and Heineken. His film work in music over the last decade is extensive to include documentary shorts, features, concert films and live broadcasts. Notable collaborations include making TIFF selection "Building a Broken Mousetrap" with Jem Cohen and editing David Byrne's Ride Rise Roar. As a director he has worked with a long list of emergent and iconic artists and athletes that includes Karl-Anthony Towns, Miley Cyrus, Lambchop, RZA, Moby, JJ Watt, Chance The Rapper, Bon Iver, Joel Embiid, Ronda Rousey, A$AP Ferg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, The Black Keys, Spiritualized, Eminem, Alt-J, The Flaming Lips, Local Natives, Emmy Lou Harris and Dolly Parton. His latest concert film "Almost Home: Moby Live at The Fonda" is in DVD release.
