Bobby Naderi

- Director
Bobby Naderi is an acclaimed actor
whose performances carry the weight
of the life behind them. His work runs
from art house to studio films, Sundance
premieres and a BAFTA winner at one end, a
global franchise at the other, made with
directors including Nina Menkes, Babak
Anvari, Ben Affleck, David Ayer and Craig
Gillespie, and held together throughout by a
serious, unhurried dedication to the craft
and to the story being told.
He plays Agent Matt Wiley in the Beekeeper
franchise the first opposite Jason Statham
and Jeremy Irons in David Ayer's
Miramax/MGM thriller The Beekeeper, a
global hit that surpassed $150 million
worldwide, and again in the sequel, which
he wrapped in the autumn of last year
under director Timo Tjahjanto.
That first film was his third project with Ayer, who cast him in Bright opposite Will Smith and directed him again on Fox's Deputy the kind of return engagement a director offers an actor he trusts to hold a scene.
On television, he most recently starred in Amazon's The Better Sister, adapted from Alafair Burke's bestselling novel and created by Olivia Milch, with Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as estranged sisters drawn back together by a murder. Naderi played Detective Matt Bowen, partner to Kim Dickens's Detective Nancy Guidry, in an ensemble that included Corey Stoll and Matthew Modine. The pilot was directed by Craig Gillespie.
He learned the work at Sundance. Three of his early features premiered there, Nina Menkes's Phantom Love, The Taqwacores, which he led, and Babak Anvari's BAFTA-winning Under the Shadow and that grounding in independent film carried him into studio pictures and prestige television, among them Netflix's Black Summer, with recurring roles on Fear the Walking Dead, Deputy, and Prison Break. Born in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq war, Naderi's early years were shaped by displacement and resolve. That history still informs his work. A preference for roles carrying weight, humanity, and something genuinely at stake.
