- Gabriel Reid is a New Zealand writer, director and educator whose work spans film, television and theatre. He began his career as a child actor and has since worked across the screen industry as a performer, writer, director and creative producer. His short films have screened internationally and his work has received recognition from Promax, Tropfest and the New Zealand Writers Guild.
A former vice-chair of the Directors & Editors Guild of Aotearoa New Zealand (DEGANZ) and a board member of Film Auckland Inc. (FAI), Reid has produced high-end television promos for TVNZ and MediaWorks and helped facilitate the establishment of New Zealand Opera. He holds a PhD in Film Studies, with research undertaken at Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic, Blue Sky Studios, Animal Logic and Weta Digital. His M.A. thesis examined Shakespeare on screen and was researched at the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre and Renaissance Films.
Reid has a number of long-form projects in development. His work spans genres and explores themes of longing, reinvention and human complexity.
