Biography

Levi Wilson is a New York-based writer, director, cinematographer, editor, producer, and occasional actor whose career spans independent film, television, theater, and experimental media. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BFA in Theatre Arts, Wilson began his career as a playwright, stage director, and performer before moving into filmmaking, where his eclectic body of work combines dark comedy, surrealism, horror, and character-driven storytelling. He has collaborated extensively with acclaimed filmmaker James Merendino (SLC Punk!) and with writer Ben Edlund (The Tick, Angel, Firefly), as well as with filmmaker and performer Lisa Hammer. Wilson appeared in Merendino and Hammer's The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch, which won Best Narrative Feature at the CMJ Film Festival, and later worked with Merendino on Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2, alongside Devon Sawa and James Duval. He has also appeared in David Chase's Not Fade Away and the television series Friends from College.

As a filmmaker, Wilson has worked across virtually every aspect of production, serving as writer, director, cinematographer, editor, producer, and performer. His long-running creative partnership with Lisa Hammer has resulted in numerous films, shorts, series, and experimental projects, including POX: The Movie, on which Wilson received a writing credit and also appeared as an actor. He co-created and directed the award-winning musical-biographical series Maybe Sunshine, and has served as director of photography on projects including Great Kills, the James Merendino-directed mockumentary series featuring Wilson and Hammer on camera, with later seasons featuring such performers as Cathy Moriarty, Eric Roberts, and Bai Ling. His wider filmmaking collaborations have brought him into projects involving Molly Ringwald, Charlie Tahan, Lou Diamond Phillips, Eric Roberts, Eve Plumb, Kevin Corrigan, Ruben Rabasa, and other established film and television performers. His work reflects an unusually hands-on approach to independent filmmaking, often moving fluidly between behind-the-camera and on-camera roles.

Wilson's recent work has centered on increasingly ambitious original productions. His short film"Luke and Emma and a Gas Station on Franklin Avenue" has enjoyed a successful festival run and was acquired by AMC+, while the story is now being developed as a feature film. The film, produced in collaboration with Lisa Hammer, has established Wilson as a filmmaker capable of combining intimate character drama with an offbeat, distinctly New York sensibility. At the same time, Wilson served as director of photography and producer on Hammer's surreal horror film "Under the Midnight Sun", starring Kevin Corrigan, Ruben Rabasa, Eve Plumb, and Gabrielle Sterbenz. Together, these projects represent the next stage of Wilson's career: expanding from his roots in theater and independent filmmaking into feature development while continuing to champion the highly personal, unconventional storytelling that has defined his work.
