Biography

Fahmi Farahat is an award-winning international filmmaker and producer with 20 years of experience. A graduate of California State University, Fullerton (BA in Radio, TV & Film, 2006). Throughout his career, Farahat has cultivated a diverse portfolio spanning documentary, narrative, and experimental. Credits include the critically acclaimed The Wedding Dress (2015), which garnered recognition at festivals including the Dubai International Film Festival and the International Filmmakers Festival of World Cinema in Berlin. He co-produced A Father Taken (2007), winner of the Audience Choice Award at Newport Beach Film Festival. He also served as an Associate Producer on the award-winning film Three Veils (2011). In 2020, he produced the live-streamed feature-length interactive film/theater piece Yajuj: Curse of Iram, demonstrating his forward-thinking approach to cinematic engagement by utilizing digital platforms to redefine genre filmmaking in the Middle Eastern context. Farahat’s production philosophy is rooted in a blend of institutional rigor and independent creative agility. Having worked on high-profile commissions for VICE, MBC Group, and Aramco, he possesses extensive expertise in managing complex production logistics, digital workflows, and cross-cultural collaborations. As the founder of Dramaturgys, he is developing original projects and is dedicated to building sustainable, high-impact co-productions that bring distinctive regional voices to global audiences.

Saudi director and producer Fahmi Farahat had his first gleams of the production world in the age of 15 as a talent in SaudiTV's Channel 2 "The Rap Session." After receiving a diploma in computer programming, Farahat moved to the States persuading a career as a filmmaker. He graduated in 2006 from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in Radio, TV & Film.

Since 2003, Farahat has been involved in over 50 productions as a director, producer and editor, among other crew work. These productions included short and feature films, music videos, news segment, in-studio productions, commercials and promotional videos.

In 2005 he produced and directed the independent 16mm film titled Allegory of the Cave. In 2006, he directed a film entitled Beyond the Fence which was the first 35mm film his school had ever produced. Both films were picked up by Zahra Pictures for distribution and have been screening in many festivals world wide as while as broadcasting on TV. Prior to that, while still in college and working at a US TV station, Farahat won an award for his editing on a news segment entitled: Resonance Clothing, as while as other awards in journalism and human relations.

In 2007, Farahat completed his 1st feature length documentary entitled: Saudis in America which was projected in festival and public screenings in the USA, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Mexico. That same year, he was hired as an editor on the feature length narrative film entitled: Making Maya and co-produced a short film entitled A Father Taken which premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival, then in Syria, Russia and finally won the Audience Choice Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in California.

In 2008, Farahat directed a films entitled Ahmad's Xmas Carol, Lulu's Curls and a music video entitled Circles by Chicago based Muslim artists known as Qissmet. He also produced many films such as Eid El-Um, Can you Hear me? and A Land Called Paradise, which won the Grand Prize at the LinkTV Film Contest. He also served as a director for the US Tour "Voices for Change" featuring critically acclaimed hip-hop international band Outlandish.

In 2010, Fahmi Farahat served as a 1st Assistant Director and Editor on the upcoming drama about three Muslim women living in America entitled Three Veils Produced by Ahmad Zahra, Directed by Rolla Salbek and featuring an all star cast that includes Sheetal Sheth (Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World) Mercedes Masöhn (Entourage, the Closer, Red Sands) Erick Avari (Heros, Mr. Deeds, Mall Cop) and from the Arab world, Syrian actress Angela Zahra (Maraya), Arabic Superstar Madline Tabar and introducing the Saudi broadcaster Salwa Shaker. The film premiered and won the Audience Choice Award at the Portland Women's Film Festival 2011, as while as, screenings and awards at: D.C International LGBT Film Festival, Arab Film Festival, Paris International Feminist Film Festival, Boston International Film Festival, Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, Toronto Independent Film Festival, Italy Women's Film Festival and much more.

In 2010, his works include the Saudi feature entitled The Corporation, a comedy about gender segregation in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. As while as, directed a documentary entitled A Night to Remember, that won 3rd place best Documentary at the Abu Dabhi International film festival, Produced an award wining short film, entitled Winak? (Where R U?), won best Arab Short at Doha Tribeca International Film Festival.
